But First Class havent Merseytravel gone the other way with the 56A if memory is correct and dropped the 1 from the number .

Usually a 1xx, 2xx or 8xx number indicates it is a Merseytravel tendered service.

i.e. Cumfybus should (IMO) have changed 133 to 33, 135 to 35, 235 to 35A/36 etc...

But Merseytravel have renumbered Merseytravel routes 136 (St Helens-Chain Lane) to 36 and in this last week the 156 (Liverpool-Netherton) to 56/56A!

I see two sides to this. On the one hand, I take the point that it's nice to be able to tell at a glance whether a service is tendered or commercial. Conversely, I think this is far outweighed by the annoyance of identical journeys having a different number depending on whether they're commercial or subsidised. It clutters up bus maps, and makes the sorting of services into lists needlessly tricky - sometimes one finds (e.g.) 161 next to 61, where it logically belongs; sometimes in the middle of the 1xx where it numerically belongs!

If the route is nearly but not quite the same, and needs differentiating, then I think a suffix letter is preferable (perhaps M for Merseytravel?) which at least solves the sorting issue if not the proliferation one.

On a similar note (and even, by coincidence, on topic since this week!), is there any significance to the choice of the number 901 for the Leasowe/Moreton local service? I've often wondered about it, all alone in a series by itself! (Although I vaguely remember there was a 902 somewhere in the Upton vicinity for a while?)

Seems a unusual way of doing it haha I have seen EU06 UNY on it most days whats the other regular bus?

RE: Cumfybus - moreton407 - 15/10/2012 14:08

Noted this morning a bus on the 133 (unable to get reg number etc) with a pieve of paper in the corner of the window with "133" on it. No destination.

Although the side destination was working, but was displaying "810 WOODSIDE"!

I visited Cumfybus' new Atherton Road depot in Aintree on Friday. To be honest, it appears to be smaller than I expected it to be - can't see everything being able to operate out of there, but there's only one way to find out... I took some photos there, anyway:

Also, some photos of Cumfybus on the 133 and the 231:

Some great photos there! i had a wander past the depot today T421OUB was still in same condition in the yard headlamps hanging out and parts removed while next to it was solo YN04LXA also with many parts and panels removed. The supertravel liveried solo was in the shed being worked on suggesting re entry into service and while i was there solo VU52UEM was bought back to the depot on the back of a johnsons tow wagon suggesting it had broke down while out in service today anyone know what route it had been on?

Fylde villager branded solo MX09MJV is on maghull circulars today along with a couple of the hybrid ones.
