Wow - that's nice! They must be interesting people that have such wacky lives to be waiting around for Cumfybus all day - especially when Arriva just sail past them every couple of minutes... Dodgy

I'm sure that they were just winding you up - or they might have been existing 70 passengers that're happy to have their 70 (SEVENTY) back!

Well there they go - the 70 is back as the 139! THAT'S WHAT THEY'LL BE HAPPY ABOUT!

It's getting like posts by Infamy this, going around in circles.

I'll say it again the 139 first service into St Helens arrives at 10am the last one from St Helens departs at 3:15pm & it's every 60 minutes, as much as i'd like to see people using the 139, to suggest that's going to damage Arriva/Stagecoach 10A or even 10 is pure dreamland.

RE: Merseytravel Timetable Changes - T42 PVM - 18/06/2012 22:47

yes however i talked 7 people already tonight to use the 139 to huyton or liverpool as they already go there but they inerchange in town for the 10A or 89

Whatever! They'll see sense, if these people are actually living humans with common sense...

why get 2 buses when you can get 1 and save money while your at it?

You're just complicating it up now...

If the 139 is their only link to Liverpool, then I can see why they might use it then! If they have the option of the 10/10A/139, if they had common sense, they wouldn't let a 10/10A sail past just to save about 10p! Also, Cumfybus' extended service only runs during certain hours to cover the 70 - not to create a new link! If it was to create a new link, then they better get back to the drawing board and make it better (make it run for more hours in the day for a start)!

RE: Merseytravel Timetable Changes - MTL0201 - 18/06/2012 22:57

So all the money that passengers are saving by getting the 139 instead of the 10/10A is the amazing amount of 10p then?

RE: Merseytravel Timetable Changes - CX54 DKD - 18/06/2012 23:01

Terry, the 139 is a very limited service time wise. Whilst the first 10.15 journey to Liverpool is okay, it doesn't get into Liverpool until 11.50. So that's already an hour and 35 minutes compared to just over an hour on the 10A from Thatto Heath. Then coming back, the last St Helens bound journey leaves Liverpool at 13.28 arriving back to St Helens at 15.00.

So, let's assume that somebody uses the 139 soley in order to get to Liverpool. They get the first bus in and the last bus back out. That means that they get just over 2 hours in Liverpool and that's including time to get to and from Queen Square/Sir Thomas Street from wherever they've been. A lot of people want to spend more than just 2 hours if they're going to make such a substantial trip. In this example, they'd spend more time on the bus than in Liverpool! That's where Arriva and Stagecoach come in with their day long services and that is something which, in its current form, the 139 cannot compete against. That's on the assumption that Cumfybus are even trying to compete against Arriva on that section which I firmly believe they are not - much more likely that they are simply replacing the 70 with no other intentions.

Of course it will be nice to have that extra link through to Liverpool but with those timings and time constraints, it's no competitor to Arriva and Stagecoach regardless of price.
