They were never due in April.
Speke has priority due to the QBP, the capacity required for the many schools, college and university on the 81 route, and the fact that they are cascading around 21 buses to other depots to replace again fleets. They need buses to cover this, any later than early September and there would be a serious bus shortage, and Speke is one of the depots where the PVR dramatically increases after the summer season, mostly due to the amount of students living in South Liverpool.
Southport already has deckers, they may not be the most reliable, but at least they have them.
