I am quite sure that this was not in service at de-reg.

No idea of the date though!

I will have to have a look when I get home as work computer blocks flickr, just to satisfy my curiosity before I get to look, is your picture before or after de-reg. Thanks.

It's a picture acquired by my Dad, taken on Lime Street working the 14C, in green & cream (no brown on this!) so probably late 70's/early 80's?

How early do you mean, as 1681 was a very early withdrawal from Gillmoss as well, probably around 1982/83 ish as remember seeing this parked in Gillmoss in a totally dilapidated state when I was a child.

Just had a look, 1681 still listed as at GM in the 5th (1985) edition......although could be an error, think I should scan these books and put them on my Flickr, probably be of interest? Also to correct my original post, 1972 is still listed but I do know it had a short life, just curious about it's demise.

DVLA Vehicle Enquiry on MPTE 1972;

1972 (EKA 172Y) NEW 06-08-1982, DEAD 16-01-1986, N/A ccDIESEL, GREEN, TAX UNKNOWN.

As you can see, it was written-off in early '86, still in Verona Green MPTE paintwork.
Sad end to a decker that didn't even reach its fourth birthdaySad

Been scanning some old fleetbooks today, and in the 4th edition, there's a pic of 1972, first time I've seen a pic of it (of course it looked like any other MPTE Alexander bodied Atlantean.....)

Excellent scans, certainly interesting to me being a child when these buses were out and when I became interest in buses. Have also seen your photo of 1681, probably late seventies/early eighties like you said. Another reason I remember 1681 was due to the fleet plate being higher up at the front than most of the other buses, thanks again.

Same here, remember as a kid (me being the same age as 1361 & 1409!) being taken round most of the MPTE depots in the early 80's, I had my own copies of the 2nd & 3rd editions (long gone mind you....), so these fleetbooks hold much interest for me.
