RE: Merseyrail
Thanks for your help, 507022. Do appreciate it.

Quite surprised the West Kirby trains aren't 6 cars on the Saturday. Then again, the Southport trains should be pairs, or at least they always were until the winter Sunday timetable started every year I can remember until last year. Going by that, the next two weekends should be 6 cars before reverting back to threes from 29-30 September onwards.

RE: Merseyrail
507002 should be back in service within the next 2 or 3 days.
507023 is the unit named after Stuart Mason (his favourite unit!)

The Womens Open golf event at Hoylake looks like it could be going into an extra day due to the adverse weather forecast .

Network Rail built in to the schedule for the closure of the line so many days at either end just for this eventuality .

Network Railcould do with giving themselves some more operational flexibility by having a face crossover from down to up line at Hoylake thereby enabling two trains to be able to be in the platform at Hoylake , rather than just using the one on the down side away from the station building.

The time before and after the competition was for constructing the crossing and dismantling it.
So if the golf runs over into Monday, then the line won't be open till Thursday morning instead of Wednesday

RE: Merseyrail
Just to confirm, 507023 was indeed named at Southport station yesterday (16/09/12), its full title being "Operations Inspector Stuart Mason". The plates are of the same design as 507033's, a proper job as opposed to a stick-on. There was a nice ceremony at Southport - platform 2 in the event - where there were speeches and the official unveiling of the plate by the late Stuart's widow. This was followed by a special non-stop run to and from Formby and refreshments having returned to Southport. A great turn-out with plenty of people in attendance, and a nice way to remember a clearly popular man.

507023 had been tarted up for the occasion too, all its missing 'M' logos replaced. Wish they would do this to the rest of the fleet!

Thanks again to those who confirmed what was happening. I don't suppose anyone knows if and when they're naming their next unit? The papers said something about William Roscoe, The Beatles and, bizarrely, Harold Wilson namings in the future.

It never failed - it carried on working the Hoylakes after being examined

507021 sounded very rough today, is it due an overhaul soon?

Yes, should be in next or if not very soon. Have to say it rode excellently though a couple of weeks ago as a 6 car formation to Southport with 507008. I believe 508128 is yet to be overhauled also, but this may be out of sequence following its storage for a few months at West Kirby about three years ago.
