I’ve heard rumours that with 777 reliability some 508s may be kept well into 2024 now.
There are currently 9 serviceable 508s left

Wouldn't surprise me that reliability is still a problem

Would this be possible as I thought the 508s are life expired and loose their certificate to travel in passenger service after 2023?
Unless an extension is granted, although I thought that was already the case since 508143 was sent to Derby last year (shortly before its scrapping) for life assessment analysis of the 508 fleet.

Apparently as long as a unit is tested free of corrosion it may be able to have a life extension

RE: Merseyrail
I think the reliability of the 777/0 is getting better , its just the 777/1 are not liking the changeover from EMU operation to IPEMU at Fazakerley on the way out and Kirkby on the return.

I did notice one of the 777/0 units having a bit of a time trying to stop on slippy rails , the first time i have noticed it , it was always a nightmare for the PEPS at this time of the year.

508139/141 (the 508 sunset rail tour units) are the next units to go for scrap next Monday. 139 was booked to be on West Kirby services and 141 on Southports today.
But given the current 777 shortages, they could’ve been replaced on to anything today

None cancelled on Tuesday and the only one on Monday shown as trespass!

But then downhill on Wednesday with three and even more today - although exactly what happened isn't clear from RTT
