Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan
RE: Stagecoach Manchester
Looking on the Traveline North West website, it would appear that the 343 and 350 will interwork at Oldham bus station and the 348 and 350 will interwork at Ashton bus station..

The 343 will arrive at Oldham at xx31 and leaves as the 350 at xx35, arriving at Ashton as xx42 and leaving as the 348 at xx50.

The 348 arrives at Ashton at xx33 and leaves as 350 at xx40, which arrives at Oldham at xx45 and leaves as the 343 at xx50.

It would appear that the 406/412 will interwork at Oldham in the same way as the 64 and 406 does on Sundays with First.

i dont think that is what will happen i.e 343-350-348-350-343
if what you say is correct they will break/duty swap at diff location as that would exceed the 4.5 hour driving limit as 343 is 80mins 350 is an hour 348 is 50mins so a round trip would take 5hr 10min roughly. 343 and 350 i/w is poss but not all 3 it may be round trip of 343/350 with others doing as first do 348/350 but all 3 i/w wouldnt be plausible
my personal opinion is 343/350 with either 348 stayin on its own OR quiet poss i/w with 347s with a 10min break each way at ashton

Bus driving comes under domestic regulations, which as max of 5.5 hours driving.

5.5hours is gernally what's used as the rule
But you can drive a total of 7h 45m over an 8h 30m period without a break; as long as at the end of this period you have at least a 45m break or it is the end of the working day

You wouldn't catch me driving for 7hours 45minutes, with-out a break.......

Is this why there are so many bus companies, up and down the country, always advertising for drivers ?

Stagecoach changes for Manchester and Wigan posted on their website. All night bus journeys on the 256 and some on the 219 are withdrawn, with Stagecoach extending the last regular 219 journey to Stalybridge. 216 morning journeys are extended from Stamford Park to Stalybridge.

Why do Ashton depot run the 183 instead of Middleton? It goes off at around 3PM to do an 821 which runs from Broadway so its even closer to Middleton and its run by either a MAN or an Enviro200 both of which are allocated to Middleton as well as Ashton.

I think at the time stagecoach were awarded the contract for the 183 Ashton was seen as less stretched than Middleton but it now apparently has dedicated drivers that work it hence why it's remained at Ashton. I think Middleton do one journey a day on it.

Another question I've got regarding Ashton is which journeys do HE still do on the 219. I was out in town on Sunday evening and noticed two SK63 Hybrids leaving town on 219's. Are all Sunday evening journeys worked by HE or just some.

As regards 219, I don't know about operating depots, but I don't see that many hybrids on Aytoun Street on weekdays, and when in Picc for about 45 minutes the other Saturday, I saw about four consecutive diesel workings (all HE) with the 216 a mix of hybrids and diesels.

I couldn't remember if the 183 was before I after the bluebird takeover so thanks for clarifying that.

I caught a 216 into town on Sunday at about 3pm and it did seem like most workings in the opposite direction were by Hybrids. It's strange though as obviously the hybrids do seem to wonder onto the 216 but it's still quite rare to see them on other AZ services on a Sunday.

RE: Stagecoach Manchester
There is two dedicated bus drivers on the 183 when I use it, I won't name them for privacy but we have 1 driver who was hired for only the 183 and she told me she's on 3 days and then there's the other regular driver, I believe he's also an enthusiast but I'm not sure whether he's on here or not and he does the morning school bus, the first 183 duty as well as the last 3 183 duties and the 821 school bus, I do prefer having dedicated drivers, they both know the passengers along the route and its nice when you can say hello to the driver as you know who they are.
