RE: The Weather
They are looking at a new record for 24 hours of rain in Cumbria now if what they do say is true and that unfortunate record was only set in 2009.

RE: The Weather
You sure that was from desmond's depression and not the following low pressure which followed it but was not called a named storm .

It was definitely from Storm Desmond. However gust speeds recorded at mountain sites are not used for official records - I think this because they are a lot more exposed than other areas. Capel Curig as you said would have been the highest gust recorded on a non-mountain site - so that would have been the highest gust speed which was officially recorded

Is the Capel Curig Weather Station inside the MOD land in the area or is it near the Outward Bound Centre , there the two major locations in that area.

It was strange yesterday to hear so much about snow when here on the Wirral the precipitation was only of rain . We must have been on the warm side of the front that was going through.

It now seems thatthe weather will be an east west split at the start of next week , the west being in double digits and the east in low single digits , only one problem for us in the west rain will once again be sitting on top of us again just as we are recovering from all the floods .
