No to DOO!

Northern will have two members of staff on board every service but the driver will do door duties on most Northern Connect services, other services will continue as they are at present. It's Merseyrail who will move to London Underground style operation with no second staff member on most services (late services will have additional staff.)

Long Marston has overhaul facilities but more than likely for store until Wolverton available to take them in unless problems have been found and they don't want them...

I completely agree with you on "No to DOO" as well!

That I don't know, I always thought that they formed part of the additional 12 units due, time will tell!

I'm not sure how you know that given that the staffing of the new trains for Northern hasn't even been discussed!

If you are sat in the front half of the carriage (or front carriage or front half of rear carriage on double-units) you usually won't be aware there is a guard on board.

Lots of things.

The Guard is responsible for the safety of passengers on the train. If needs be they are in charge of evacuating the train (as has happened at least twice near Liverpool tonight) for instance. If anything happens that results in the Driver being prevented from carrying out their safety duties if the train is involved in an accident then a Guard is trained to carry out anything that may be required, such as contacting the Signal Box and taking steps to prevent a further incident, such as arranging for other lines to be blocked if they are obstructed because of a derailment for example.

Plus safe operation of the trains doors and revenue collection.

The lines from Lime St to Edge Hill to Lime St were bloked after a large amount of debris fell into the cutting, on its way down it knocked out the overhead lines. A couple of trains were stuck for some time, the 1747 Lime St to Euston and the 1640 Manchester Airport to Lime St at least.

It'll take some time to clear up, some comments are suggesting services will be affected tomorrow.
