I was reading an article about the Class 185 units just before Christmas , the article was saying that as three car units all powered there a bit on the over-powered side. The DfT said no to a trailer car being built to make them all into four car units a while back which would have got power to weight back to normal i think. |

They're "over powered" because of the terrain on the routes they operate on. They wouldn't have that much power if they didn't need it |

They wouldn't have that much power if they didn't need it Over-powered , have you been on one of these units when the eco-system for the train drops an engine so it only runs on 2 of the 3 engines , the system picks at random which engine to turn off. |

I suspect there was a misunderstanding by Siemens of what was meant by trains with good climbing ability. Possibly they thought of railways on the nearby Bavarian Alps when they were designing them? |
