I see two problems , firstly there is train services coming across the pennines going to Manchester Airport that at some point have to cross the throat to enter or exit the guide bridge lines and depart to the Airport or vice versa . Network Rail are trying to limit the amount of units that have to do a full throat crossover as a failure could be cataclysmic , its bad enough when a train fails in either platform 13 or 14 and single line working on the remaining platform is done .
