I think the demand is more likely to be High Legh/Broomedge/Mere to Knutsford - it's possible now but shopping in Knutsford doesn't take 5 hours - a visit to Tatton Park Mansion and Gardens might take that long but that requires a bit of walking. Likewise it's possible to do Warrington-Knutsford return now but it requires a change at Lymm in both directions and for those with ENCTS passes it requires both outbound sections to be completed before free travel starts.

It sounds like the change is to accommodate those from High Legh/Broomedge/Mere who used to go to Altrincham on the 289 and would prefer to go to Altrincham over Warrington. Although, whether they'll want to do it if a change of bus is involved is a different question.

I suggested to Warrington's Own Buses that a number of pensioners from the Mobberley Road area of Knutsford weren't happy at the re-routing of the 88 bus via Longridge and if they extend the 47 at least as far as where Shaw Heath Post Office used to be they could get a few extra passengers - possibly even some being attracted to go to Warrington on a direct bus - but they didn't respond to the suggestion.
