RE: Arriva Trains Wales
Is this the first time that an incumbent has declined to bid to retain a franchise? I'm not referring to new bids withdrawn but to a franchisee willingly declining to renew.

DfT have given permission for a devolved Wales franchise to run an hourly Chester to Liverpool via Runcorn service. They will also be allowed to extend the North Wales to Manchester Airport services to Wilmslow or divert them to Stalybridge if they wish!

RE: Arriva Trains Wales
I wonder what has caused the damage to the Class 175 wheelsets.

Seems the Class 175's are jinxed , vehicles trying to cross in front of them , unit fires and now this .

It's been found the problem is damaged points on the North West Coast line have damaged the wheels on many of the 175s, while some 158s and Voyagers have also been affected but it's mainly 175s which are affected.

Around 50% of services on Valley Lines, Borderlands and the Heart of Wales line are cancelled tomorrow to free up 150s for other services.

Is the ongoing problem with the lack of service on the Marches Line weather related or the ongoing wheel problems .

Another problem is so many wheels having failed at the same time is that there is no spare wheelsets available , will it be the case of robbing peter to pay paul to get some sets slowly out on to the network.

Network Rail is going to take a massive hit from this , they are just a little fortunate that the weather intervened this past week.

RE: Arriva Trains Wales
The only line now without a service following the recent bad weather is the Heart of Wales Line service between Shrewsbury and Swansea.

Line requires a thorough inspection of structures and bridges.

Dont forget this is the line where the Glanrhyd bridge collapsed 30years ago this past October gone , which resulted in 4 fatalities (1 BR Driver and 3 members of the public).

175107 had a smouldering engine dealt with by the fire Brigade at Deganwy yesterday.

These 175's are turning into Dante's Inferno at this rate.
