Fawlty Towers actress Prunella Scales has died aged 93. Scales was best known for playing hotel manager Sybil Fawlty, the bossy wife of Basil, in the classic British sitcom. Her family said that she was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died. She had been diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2013. Her husband, fellow actor Timothy West, died in November last year.This year marked 50 years since the classic comedy Fawlty Towers first appeared on screens. She also went on to receive a Bafta nomination for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Alan Bennett's 1991 televised play, A Question of Attribution.

The former Aberdeen and Arsenal defender Willie Young has died at the age of 73. Young played more than 180 games for the Dons before going on to lift the FA Cup with the Gunners in 1979. He is perhaps best remembered for forcing a change in the laws of the game and the creation of the "professional foul" following his tackle on West Ham forward Paul Allen in the 1980 final of the competition.

Diane Ladd, three-time Academy Award nominee and star of Wild at Heart, has died aged 89. Ladd's career on stage and screen spanned decades. Her big break in film came as a waitress in Martin Scorsese's Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore in 1974.

Former US Vice-President d**k Cheney has died aged 84, Cheney was part of the Republican administration of former president George W Bush. He was a central figure in the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the US and allied forces.

Nobel Prize-winning American scientist James Watson, one of the co-discoverers of the structure of DNA, has died aged 97. In one of the greatest breakthroughs of the 20th Century, he identified the double-helix structure of DNA in 1953 alongside British scientist Francis Crick, setting the stage for rapid advances in molecular biology.

Former Top Gear presenter Quentin Wilson has died at the age of 68.

Wilson was a presenter on the original 1977 series from 1991 until the series was cancelled in 2001. He subsequently moved to Channel 5 to present rival motoring show 'Fifth Gear' from 2002 until 2005.

He also participated on the second series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2004, but finished with the lowest score ever on the show.
