An average of 55 passengers per day according to reports. A comment posted on an article on wilmslow.co.uk asks why don't the operator use smaller buses - given the largest bus they've used is a 35 seater it's not exactly as though they've been using big buses and the driver needs to be paid the same whatever size bus it is.

Interesting, especially considering Cheshire East might terminate their 88 contract and the 300 (evening and Saturday) contract early, which could leave them with just the 300 Mon-Fri daytime commercial service if they don't get the replacement contract (which could see the 88, 27, 289 and 188 (schools) all merged in to one contract.) Although, it should be stressed there is strong opposition to that Cheshire East proposal.

i wonder if they are planning to try a couple of commercial services

Or maybe run more school services. The Streetlites all now seem to have yellow school bus signs.

All students at South and West Cheshire colleges are getting free transport in September so I would say that is more likely correct.

Confirmation on Cheshire East website that extended 85 is to replace 1A and 1B services Mon-Sat.

There's a list of what will be the free services on the South Cheshire website but they don't mention operators for any of them, all that's mentioned is they'll be contracts operated on behalf of South Cheshire College. They do also mention the normal D&G, First and Arriva bus services which serve the college.

D&G seem to be short of drivers at Wincham at present. There was a driver on the 88 yesterday who I hadn't seen since the route transferred from Crewe to Wincham and on another bus there were two new drivers - one guiding the other using an app on his phone.

New 85 times now appearing on Traveline

From Nantwich weekday departures will be hourly from 08:15 to 15:15 then a 17:00 and 18:00 service.

From Hanley weekday departures will be hourly from 08:53 to 16:53.

There are also some part journeys e.g. there is a 07:35 Newcastle to Nantwich journey but there isn't any easy way to find all part journeys on Traveline.
