The streetlite was probably only on 471/2 because of a breakdown. They do seem to be having a fair number problems with the hybrids at the moment.

Bring thecenviro 400s back to laird street, yeah they were probably not well liked by staff but they did the job with few failures and a more comfortable ride

It is still happening apparently, just later than planned So Bootle will get Spekes Enviros soon but none for Birkenhead

The ex Bolton hybrids would have been useful, but were transferred to Speke almost as quickly as they arrived at Laird Street. Some non Cross River routes that could do with deckers like 410, also 413/414 can be standing room only around the school run, & can be quite busy in the peaks.

Completely agree. Thats why the ex London cast offs have always been so welcomed up here for the last 15 years adding extra to capacity to the existing decker on the main routes plus the "local" services that dont make the money for new deckers and around in every depot. I am still baffled why none have come up since the VLWS/DLAs.
They have done for 15 years so why not now where have they all gone now.

The early DLAs were quite poor weren't they, limited seats in the lower deck compared to a normal decker, & so slow they struggled on hills not even that steep, the later models would have been ok bit more power. The only ex London vehicles that were worse than the DLAs were the Pathfinders, they've all long gone.

The Dlps weren't much better than the dlas, also a bit limited on seating downstairs and just as bad on power. Best London cascades were the Vlws I my opinion, at least they could move properly.

Quite some time ago, I was told that as London buses mainly operated in a flat environment with frequent stops and slow road speeds they had their engines and gearboxes calibrated to provide the best fuel consumption at the expense of torque and power. Can anyone in the know confirm this assertion?

That wouldn't surprise me.
