I would hazard a guess that the Edinburgh - Newcastle service will be operated by Class 185's and maybe a trapped 350/4 if they are passed for operation between Edinburgh - Newcastle.

Be aware that the 350/4's trapped in Scotland will have to be managed as they will be due exams at Ardwick which could cause operational issues in the near future if the problem at lamington is very serious.

I think one problem Network rail have is that the Class 185 may not be passed for travel via Dumfries / Kilmarnock to Glasgow Central , don't forget these are weighty beasts.

185s may well be passed for the G & SW route as they were operating regularly to Glasgow before the 350s arrived. Also the G & SW is used by heavy freight traffic so thir weight may be ok. The problem is that there are no spare 185s.

TPE's Liverpool to Edinburgh via York services will commence in December 2019. The new trains will enter service between December 2017 and December 2019 with the electric only trains arriving last. The capacity increase figures suggest all the 350/4s and some of the 185s will be released by December 2019.

Lets just see how fast they are able to do the fill in electrification projects at the moment nothing is running to time as such with them .

With TPE trains between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North, Barrow and Windermere transferring to Arriva on 1st April a start has been made on the Barrow line removing the TPE names.

This is sensible. Then if trains are delayed or cancelled, nobody blames TPE then.

Thought first had kept TPE?

Read the post properly. Blackpool North is going to Arriva so routes operating from here are switching to arriva

Technically First have not kept TPE, First Group have won the new remapped TPE franchise. The current franchise is operated by First/Keolis TransPennine Limited, the new one will be operated by First Trans Pennine Express Ltd so all current staff will be TUPEd to the new company and they'll be new branding and uniforms coming in.

So its not just the Class 319's that can cause disruption on services into and out of Liverpool , this morning a class 185 decided it was not operating beyond St Helens Junction , having to be rescued by another class 185 which then couldn't remove its errant partner . All in all it took about 3 hours to sort .

The unit that failed was on the 0616 from York to Liverpool , the unit that would have formed the 0812 Liverpool - Newcastle was the assisting unit , this service restarted at York with a new unit.
