Some thoughts:

No Merseyrail trains on Boxing Day (as they tried in previous years).

Arriva not running 35 (St Helens) on Boxing Day/New Year's Day (as they have in previous years) although this does make sense is they only normally run Mon - Sat daytimes.

South Liverpool & Maghull Circulars now finish same time as other routes on New Year's Day (previously ran to normal finish times).

What is Merseytravel's thinking behind renumbering some (but not all) of the Christmas Day services to start with a H prefix? Just seems strange as most routes have had an X at the end of the number in the last few years.

I think it's the ones they seem hospital buses that are now H1-3 but not sure why.

It's just dawned on me. The routes with the H prefix are routes which don't normally run these days like the 118 (Wirral) and 194/5 (St Helens). Probably an attempt not to confuse passengers.

Is it worth noting that the 201 doesn't normally run 5 trips per day and the 12 doesn't normally go to Huyton so technically, they should ALL be renumbered as they are almost all off their 'normal' route.

H3/195X will have its regular driver though lol

But aside from the slight variations, these are routes which are still in operation whereas the 118,194 & 195 no longer exist.

The 12x was originally the 212x until fairly recently, deriving from the liverbus/MTL North 212, itself a variation of the merseybus 12a/13a.

The number was shortened to the 12x To give symbolance to the Stockbridge to Liverpool section of route and also as the 212 route hasn’t ran since it was partially replaced by the 11 (Liverpool to Prescot) and in turn 21 (Stockbridge to Prescot) roughly 2000/2001. It also fits on a 3 track roller blind system.

I wouldn't call them slight. If they were all renumbered, no one would be confused at all. It just means you need to include timing points and a brief route description. It might be the number 12 from Stockbridge to Liverpool but it should be the H12 to Huyton. This keeps the 'H' suffix with the Christmas day buses and keeps the 'standard' route number. The only difference is the 'H' represents a route change.

No Merseyrail on Boxing Day is to do with the Wirral Line Loop being shut from last train on Christmas Eve for the platform upgrade works.

This is information which I didn't know/wasn't aware of at time of original post. I have seen this mentioned elsewhere (including Merseyrail thread) since.
