'Blue' MAN ALX300 22049 has moved into the paintshop for its second repaint in just over a year.

Odd workings at Stockton today include Enviro300s 24114/24101 on the 38, and Enviro300 24104 on the 35. Olympian 16831 covered part of a 36, while also on there are 22174, 22195, 22013 and 22016.

Looks like the Enviro300s are playing up again then, down from the full 13 out on 36s on Monday plus 24114 as a spare bus and 24112 on the 52 to having 4 ALX300s on the 36 today.

I think the Enviro300s engines are no good on long runs like 36 service and they should be on shat runs it would be better for them. And ALX300 are better on long runs like 36 service and Enviro300s on srevice 12 may be some thing like that. If that not the problem with them so what is the problem with them

It's mainly down to the de-rating for emissions regulations therefore meaning the engines needing big turbos to give the power. Unfortunately this means the turbos are used a lot more on these Enviro300s so they wear out quickly. That's the main problem with them I understand, along with overheating in the summer (cooling systems are terrible).

Although I'm not a mechanical engineer, I don't think that's quite the problem.

In order to get particulate emissions down, it is important to ensure the most efficient combustion possible in the cylinder. This achieved through burning the fuel at higher temperatures, making the fuel/air mix injected slightly leaner than previously and mapping the ECU so the engine works 'harder'.

There's no real difference in the turbos fitted as far as I'm aware, but the fact that exhaust & inlet pressures are higher than previously means the turbo is spinning faster (up to 20,000+ rpm) for longer periods which obviously wears them out.

Hope that helps.

B10BLE 21104 was on the 38 this afternoon - unless it was taken off after this photo was taken, it will currently be out on the last full 12 of the day

36-branded MAN Enviro300 24105 was used as changeover on the 35 this afternoon replacing 21150.

Since the September changes, it seems that the prevously regular Olympian turn on the 12 after 3pm has passed onto the 11 instead.

Hybrid Enviro, NK11DJJ, was broken down on Barack Road earlier this afternoon.
