Does wonder what the extent of the severe weather presently affecting Northern England is going to have on the train service when it resumes in the morning.

RE: Northern Rail - St Helens Rider - 08/01/2016 08:07

More problems on 319's this morning as due to a failure, a journey on the Wigan stoppers has been cancelled. On Wednesday, one journey was running 10-15 minutes late due to the unit having problems.

RE: Northern Rail - DVG526 - 08/01/2016 08:15

A 319 failed in the tunnels outside Lime St at around 1730 on Tuesday.. Not an ideal time to happen!

RE: Northern Rail - wirralbus - 08/01/2016 14:47

Another 319 failed this morning on the approach to Lime street platforms 1 to 4 , was pushed into Lime Street by another 319.

Seriously the Class 319 fleet is becoming a liability to Northern .

London Midland are also have problem with there class 319's as well , no wonder Govia Thameslink Rail are getting shut of the dud ones by the looks of it , leaving them with the pick of the good ones until there new class 700 comes on stream.

I personally think that's very exaggerated to say the least. Over the last ten months they've been in service with Northern Rail I've travelled on the Class 319s quite a few times (over varying distances) and none of those units failed at any point during those journeys. Yes the 319s have their problems but I wouldn't go as far as what you've said

Was the same 319 that failed in the tunnels today as on Tuesday,319386.The first Manchester Vic to Lime St today was also cancelled as 319364 failed.

To have two high profile failures on the approach though to LIVERPOOL LIME STREET really does beg the question though that the diesel's where more reliable even though they did have lower amounts of accomodation.

This is actually the third what you might call high profile failure of a 319 on the approach to Lime St,28th November 2015,the 1031 Wigan-Lime St failed approaching Lime St,had to be assisted from the front by a unit sent out empty from Lime St and then dragged into Lime St.319365 being the offending unit that day.For me,give me diesels every time reliability wise versus a 319 reliability.

The more i see of these 319's the more i realise the problems First Capital Connect had with them.

Im sure Northern Rail and to a lesser extent london Midland would have liked a bit more spent on them especially with there electrical systems .

Which part of the 319's saw more use the overhead equipment or the third rail pick up , which has been removed from the Northern sets.

It's hardly like the Class 319s are failing every single day is it?

Other trains of various types have broken down on the approaches to Liverpool Lime Street before - these things happen and are certainly not exclusive to the 319s. I'm not saying that the Class 319s are brilliant units but in terms of seating capacity and journey times they are far superior to any of the diesel units previously used on the Liverpool to Manchester, Preston and Warrington routes
