When did they change the registrations on the scania's? I`m sure they were PX12 EEZ/Y/EFA/B and C

The 3 branded ones (15820-15822) were re-registered to 62 plates with them not being taxed until first service on 3rd Sept, like Manchester often do when they get new vehicles. Helps to create the illusion they're brand new as well, with the press release stating that mostly brand new buses would be used.

The first one should hopefully be out of the paintshops this week, 22139 I think. With any luck it'll be out next week, unless they want to do some work to them to make them decent. They do have a few problems, but that is generally expected when crap from Manchester gets chucked this way.

Some of them sound and run a lot better than many younger ones they've left behind.

Are these for service in Carlisle or are they going there just for repaint etc?

RE: Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire - mbonwick - 06/09/2012 17:38

For service. They were always intended for Carlisle but stopped off at ME to get the Tridents to Barrow for X35 until the Scanias were ready.

RE: Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire - BHA - 09/09/2012 07:20

Could someone clarify the new deliveries of Scania DDs to the old Stagecoach North West? I understood 15818-22 were going to Morecambe for the 42, 15823 to Preston for the extra on the 2/2A and 15839-40 to Chorley in due course for the extra 125/126. Now 15821-2 have surfaced at Barrow and there has been reference above to 15820 being branded so is this going to Barrow as well?

I think the 42 needs three buses and the new X6 needs four whereas the old X35 just about coped with three - whenever I saw it at Kendal it arrived late and left even later after taking on a healthy load so the increase to four buses will see an improvement in timekeeping. There has been reference to the Cumbria Tridents 18278-80 being troublesome, they are certainly elusive on the X35 - in several visits over the last 7 years or so I have never seen more than one out of the three on the X35. Are days numbered for 18278-80?

RE: Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire - cumbria0902150 - 09/09/2012 11:29

42 isn't getting them any more, all 5 for Morecambe have went to Barrow instead, 15818/9 are unbranded, while 15820/1/2 have full 6/X6 branding.
There is no standalone PVR now, as the old X35 route has been merged into the original 6/6A as an extension to Kendal as opposed to a standalone service, such that a bus reaches Barrow as an X6, then goes back out to Ulverston as a 6. The combined PVR on the main 6/X6 is 7 (previously 6 on 6/6A and 4 on X35 but there was only 3 council owned Tridents), with 1 bus on the Barrow - Windermere 6 (commercial replacement for contracted service 618), and a Kendal based bus (should be a Trident) on the college extra (replacement of service 735).

Council owned 18278-18280 are awaiting return to the council, although they're needing some work done first. One has been off service for months, while another has been constantly breaking down. For now, 2 are stored at Barrow with the third stored at Kendal.

Thanks for the update. Are there any plans to equip the 42 Lancaster - Blackpool with new vehicles or is it Olympian for the forseeable future? And does the 6/X6 operate with 5 Enviro400s and 2 Tridents?

Tridents and MAN ALX300's will work 42, after all vehicles return from London to replace Olympians at Morecambe.
6/X6 is 7 Scania Enviro400's. 15721 and 15722 from Kendal transferred to Barrow, with Kendal getting 18375 and 18380 from Barrow in return. Tridents are the spare allocation, along with Tridents booked on the Windermere 6's. The "college extra" journeys (Kendal allocation) should eventually be Tridents, although at the moment Leyland Olympians have been used.
