508124 is another air con recipient, espied outside BD yesterday with equipment fitted.

RE: Merseyrail - 507 mad - 17/12/2012 18:28

508143 is another recipient which has been fitted with the aircon on the wirral line and also saw a few insulator pots alight on the down southport line track next to the ravenmeols lane level crossing at formby, wasn't much of the flames but their was a lot of smoke.

A bit of a shambles this evening on the Wirral Line. I was travelling home from Hoylake to Liverpool Central, there was a dreadfully long wait for busses, and when they did arrive, there was no chance that anyone would get on them! Network Rail need to take a long hard look at that section of track between Hsq and James St as it always seems to be causing problems. Of course idiots on twitter blame Merseyrail when in fact it it Network Rail who are responsible for the tracks.

Not much you can do about pot fires. They are a disadvantage of the third rail electrification system.

Customers will always leave their litter behind, which blows into the tunnels and flashover/sparks ignite it, subsequently causing quite a bit of smoke affecting signal sighting and air quality at the stations.

Network Rail only have so much time they can allocate to litter picking.

Maybe it's time that bins are properly installed then. You can't just blame "customers" either, the train presentation team and Carlisle Security throw litter onto the track themselves. The bins could be properly monitored anyway since there always seems to be train presentation team staff around the centre stations most of the day.

It is a criminal offence to provide litter bins on the actual station.

The Fire Precautions (Sub-surface Railway Stations) (England) Regulations 2009 prevent their installation.

Quote:7(1) All parts of station premises must be kept clear of any accumulation of combustible refuse or other combustible matter.

Quote:7(2) Any area set aside for storing combustible refuse in station premises pending its disposal must be separated from other parts of the premises by fire-resisting construction.

Then maybe they should look at a more proactive way of getting rid of litter as their own staff discard things onto the track. This is quite common at Central especially if a Carlisle Security person is about.

What about at least installing bins on trains? Considering the 313s of First Capital Connect and 315s of Greater Anglia have bins, I can't see it being too much of a problem to follow suit here. That would surely at least help somewhat, and lessen the likelihood of passengers leaving their litter on trains.

I thought that it was a Track failure, was it specifically a pot fire this evening?

508141 was the first unit through on the West Kirby's

For the trains that got CAPED, TRUST says:

This train has been cancelled due to a problem with the electrified line (I1)

Further, states it was a pot fire on the riverbed.
