20 mins all lines except Ellesmere Port 30 mins and Chester 15 mins

Looks like this timetable will be in place, until at least mid May (Covid/restrictions permitting).
Do we think a 15 minute timetable and the pre-covid timetable may return in the summer (again Covid/restrictions permitting)?

Do you know what unit was involved in the fire incident at New Brighton?
I noticed from a photo on social media quite a few trains are stabled at New Brighton at the moment, including 507002, which seems to have been stabled in the wall sidings since the start of Jan-any idea whats up with this unit?

It was 507002 that was involved in the incident at New Brighton. It failed with a compressor fault as you say at the beginning of January but it’s only been at New Brighton since the middle of January, when it was moved from Birkenhead North. I’m assuming it’s waiting to go back into Birkenhead North at some point.

In many cases it goes back to the question which Merseytravel asked when restrictions were easing. Do passengers want more 6 car trains on a 20 min frequency or 3 car trains on a 15 min frequency.

If we are to reduce the chance of Covid spiking up silly again and if we are serious about passengers being comfortable, the 6 cars every 20 minutes is much better. The 3 cars every 15 minutes had a tenancy to have a fair amount of standing passengers because British awkwardness states do not sit in a group with people that you don't know so people start to stand up earlier which isn't the best, let's be honest. This is also much better for staff training on the new trains quicker.

The 20 mins seems much more reasonable and as long as existing trains get lengthened to use all available carriages, it's something that I can get onboard with. Restore the 15 min frequency when the new trains come in.

Theres a target of late April/early May for the 15min frequency to resume.

At some point it looksd like someone is going to have to put there hand in the pocket to finance some maintainence on the 507/8 units , some of these must be getting close to mileage limits now as we do not seem to be any closer to the introduction of the 777 into service ?

That’s why 508110 and 508134 went for scrap and we have “high mileage” units to be used only when necessary to help the overhauls to be spread out over a longer period. When the 777s come into service in the second half of this year, the problem should ease a bit

You sound optimistic saying second half of the year

RE: Merseyrail - 507022 - 04/02/2022 00:01

I’d rather say realistic rather than optimistic!

RE: Merseyrail - 507022 - 16/02/2022 23:51

After about six weeks out of service, 507002 was back out today on the West Kirby line
