I have just seen a picture of 777012 outside the Stadler plant in Switzerland, https://www.instagram.com/p/CF45wRmMo4C/

777012/014 are due to come next week

Services on the Chester line have departed Chester station 5 minutes earlier than timetabled the past few days due to signalling issues at Chester.

Back to normal today, however according to twitter services on the Chester line have reverted back to 3 cars from today due to the signalling issue.

Does anyone know what the issue is at Chester and why this is preventing 6 car trains running on the Chester line under the current timetable?

Speaking to a driver yesterday, she mentioned the issue was something related to the track circuits that struggle to cope with two 6-car units sat between Bache and Chester at the same time. Not entirely sure why the system would be unable to cope with that though, or why it hasn't previously affected services that much to warrant a change of the timetable...

With regards to the 6-cars, I presume it is related to the issue above, albeit I'm not entirely sure I'm afraid.

The issue is a safety related with signal reversions and the possibility of spads

Could they not have kept the 6 cars running of the Chester line, with 5 mins earlier departure at Chester and longer waiting times at Bache, like which operated the previous few days?

The Ellesmere Port line has now been strengthened to 6 cars, while the Chester's operate as 3 cars, to ensure the 6 car capacity is still provided between Hooton and Liverpool.

A number of passengers asking about the reduction in service today on twitter, with one passenger stating that they will be finding another means of travel until the 6 cars return due to congestion (and lack of social distancing) on their commute today.

I would have thought the passenger loadings would have been very low at the moment anyway (essential travel only) to make too much difference in whether the train was 3 or 6 car, despite the 30 min frequency.

Does anyone know which loco is booked to bring the 777s up in the morning

RE: Merseyrail - wirralbus - 13/10/2020 22:22

At what point does the incoming new trains start to cause a problem with stabling , as there is no definitive start date for these units .

You now have to wonder where abouts will the units be stored pending use sometime in 2021

Multiple six car formations beyond mollington substation cause problems with the signalling system between Bache and Chester , it has been an ongoing problem for a while . Think it may have been the reason for the 15 minute Chester service being introduced a while back against running 30 minute six car services.
