Merseyrail have released their strike timetables. Northern line services will only run between Liverpool Central and Aintree and between Southport and Liverpool Central in the morning and the reverse in the evening. Wirral line services will run between Hooton and James St and West Kirkby and James St in both directions from c.10am to c.10pm.

Although, at least this time they have at least mentioned Serco are involved in running the franchise. If DOO is such a big issue then at the local elections people in Merseyside can elect a Lib Dem controlled council (a Conservative one is as likely as the Mick Cash shutting down the RMT and the Conservatives are more pro-DOO than Labour.)

This is exactly what's really annoying me about all of this. It isn't Merseyrail who have ordered the new trains and said "we're not having guards on the new trains" - it was Merseytravel who started the procurement process and subsequently ordered the new fleet from Stadler which has been designed with driver controlled operation in mind. Merseyrail aren't to blame whatsoever and I completely support them and their guards 100% - this has gone on for long enough and needs to be resolved

On a slightly related topic I don't think it's been mentioned there's an option for an additional 15 units available to Merseytravel on top of the 52 on order. I really do hope this option is exercised with all of Merseytravel's plans in place for new stations and network extensions

Even if the strike was cancelled Merseyrail would still only be able to run the advertised reduced service on Saturday as read yesterday that there would not be enough time after Wednesday 5th April to implement all the safety and other procedures needed to run a full service for such a large scale event as the Grand National.

Yes, I remember reading that in Merseyrail publicity somewhere a few days ago now, which claimed even then it was too late for the full service to be restored. Evidently an outright lie as several days later they put a 'deadline' on the RMT cancelling the strike.

It all sounds about as credible as their classic Twitter line "all our trains are in service today", which they often throw out on Sundays as an excuse for overcrowding.
