I think it has proven that really instead of the latest refurb new rolling stock should have been designed and ordered. We will be lucky to have any stock left by the time new trains arrive! Shocking

Can't beat a nice bit of exaggeration hey...
A unit breaking down at the height of peak hour in one of the busiest parts of the network will always be attention grabbing, the punctuality of Merseyrail still rates amongst the highest of the TOCs.

There will always be some units that seem to have an ability to dump themselves down in the worst possible place at the worst possible time.

What i find with merseyrail these days if your going to get disruption in the mornings invariably its infrastructure related , in the afternoon its going to be unit failures , that is for the WIRRAL line only.

On the Northern line a lot depends on the points at Liverpool Central , Sandhills , Walton and LSP.

Another thing i need to pick up on is why are we going out of cycle with the timetables this year , i do know the Northern line timetable usually change to accomodate a removal of a service on the hunts cross line for pathing purposes to allow the MPV to get to Hunts Cross.

I know there were meant to be leaf fall timetables on both Northern and Wirral lines this year, although I last I heard these plans had been rejected. Maybe something to do with that?

Then of course not forgetting the Wirral line will have a special (and complicated!) timetable for most of next year, firstly due to the loop closure and secondly due to the works at Lime Street main line meaning enhanced services on the Hunts Cross line.

Finally it's also worth remembering this time that when trains are turning back at James Street next year that only platform 2 will be available there meaning that West Kirby and New Brighton services are expected to be reduced to half hourly for the duration.

507001 and 507002 formed the 16.43 Southport - Hunts Cross service this afternoon. Always great to see the Royal Special units working together.

The first train from Liverpool to Ormskirk was short formed as a 3 car this morning instead of the usual 6 cars and the 6:30 service from Maghull to Liverpool was running a bit late it left Town Green at around 06:35. Was wondering if there was any problems on the Northern line this morning or units out of service?

Unit shortage so a couple of 6 car services down to 3 car and the 0630 ex Maghull delayed by GSM-R problem

Thanks for that. What is GSM-R?

It the radio system between the train and the signallers

RE: Merseyrail - DVG526 - 15/09/2016 14:40

There's been a nationwide GSMR glitch today after a software update preventing drivers from registering headcodes on their cab radio.

RE: Merseyrail - N271CKB - 17/09/2016 16:02

Currently no service between Birkenhead Central / North and Liverpool due to electrical supply problems
