They may have the buses but not always the drivers available to drive them , on more than a couple of occasions the Liverpool based vehicles have had to be called for .

Sorry it was a typo - 508126 is the unit currently in for revinyl

508139 has had the graffiti removed and appears to look fine with no marks of it ever existing

The new information screens have now been updated to incorporate train length after the list of calling points

RE: Merseyrail - wirralbus - 11/04/2014 07:10

It is a good idea , but to be honest , how many six car diagrams is there ?

Will this be a useful tool on the information boards .

On the Northern Line at peak times, there are a large number of six cars, as well as on summer weekends on the Southport line and the football pairings we are seeing recently. Anyone who has regularly used Moorfields' Northern Line platforms at peak times will know just how important train lengths are. It's a real frenzy down there at busy times with the sheer volume of passengers on the platforms.

The carriage numbers are absolutely vital to encourage better spread of passengers throughout busy full-length trains.

Though what you do find on some services and the same can be said of most commuter railways is that most people will get on the train and exit the train on the carriage that best suits there departure station and nothing will change a persons habits , even if there is seats further up the train.

I do think that the Southport service shouldnt be operating to Hunts Cross and that one of the other services on the Northern Line should take over the extension to Hunts Cross , being the longest of the services a slight delay into Liverpool causes knock on effects and services being turned short because there isnt a window to cross the junction to Hunts Cross because the Liverpool - Manchester line is so busy these days .

RE: Merseyrail - CX06 EBK - 11/04/2014 14:50

Many people use the Southport service beyond Liverpool Central so you are left with the same issue if you tag the Hunts Cross section on to another service. That is a busy section with Brunswick Business Park and so on so the 6 car workings would still be required in any case.

RE: Merseyrail - H101GEV - 11/04/2014 15:18

I agree, the arrangement is definitely best left as it is. As well as the business park and the number of people who already make cross-town journeys on the Southport - Hunts Cross line, the 16.28 and 16.43 six cars from Southport benefit both sections of the route, meeting the many Hunts Cross line commuters at Moorfields.

In my opinion, connecting the Hunts Cross line with the Ormskirk or Kirkby routes instead would be barmy.

RE: Merseyrail - wirralbus - 11/04/2014 15:26

The poor relations of the Northern Line could actually be put together Kirkby - Hunts Cross .

Im not saying the Southport line does not require six cars but the six cars are better targetted to the market from Liverpool - Southport and Liverpool - Ormskirk.

The frequent service on the South Wirral means that no further six cars are needed to cover demand other than what is operated at the moment , one of these services usually gets dropped at times of high demand for units , there isnt an evening service the demand seems to run over a much longer time period than the morning.

West Kirby line i havent honestly seen the demand in the peak hours so couldnt possibly comment.
