Yeah its at the bodayshop with quite sustainable damage from what i seen of it and is under repair as theres a few pulsars in there getting repaired along with an interurban painted commander with extensive damage to the front end.

I have heard Arriva standard spec on new buses being described as MAX-lite. So, maybe MAX will only be used on routes whose buses are refurbished.

I miss the 284 and was puzzled as to why it was renumbered.

The 284 was a great route as thats the route i loved doing the most when at GTL aintree depot especially on a sunday when we got decent drop backs in southport by the monument.

The first time I came to Merseyside was in 1991. IIRC it was on the Monday when I went to Southport. I went up by train but was pleased to see the MerseyBus route 284 heading back to Liverpool! From my then limited knowledge of the area, I expected a Liverpool - Southport route to be run by NBC successor North Western rather than the PTC.

IIRC the 284 superseded the former Ribble S services to Southport prior to deregulation and were joint services with MPTE and Ribble. Immediately after deregulation North Western (previously Ribble) did run the 284 and 285 (to Freshfield) but at the time demand did not warrant a 15 minute frequency. I can't recall when NW withdrew but Merseybus (Southport depot) took over.

After dereg it was a joint route between North Western and Merseybus terminating at Skelhorne Street (former Ribble/then North Western/National Express coach station). This didn't last long as North Western gave up their chunk of the service to instead team up with Crosville on the X8/X9 (Chester - Liverpool - Southport - banks).
