The 60 doesnt actually go down Aigburth Vale, but thats whats displayed on the front of the buses. Never once heard anyone call it Aintree Hospital. A few years ago you wouldnt of got on the 20 in town and asked for a single to Aintree Hospital becuase it passed both sites, you would say Walton or Fazakerly. Get what I mean?

But we are not talking about years ago,it`s called what it`s called and you won`t get an appointment for any hospital called Fazakerley, the 60 does end about 10 feet from `Aigburth Vale` Which is a fair description, there are other destinations that don`t strictly go where it says `Penny Lane` being a classic, no bus has used that road for decades.

Using 'Aintree Hospital' will cause further confusion as people are bound to board the bus thinking it goes to Aintree, when in fact it goes nowhere close. Aintree village is about a mile north of the hospital, so 'Fazakerley' is a good compromise and the more familiar name for the vast majority of Liverpudlians.

the point is the hospital name is incorrect, how long has it been called this,it`s pretty shoddy to use a defunct name of a hospital as a destination, were back to the likes of the gyratory comparison if we go down the road of keeping out of date destinations, it`s not like the days of roller blinds when it took a long time to change things over, you don`t need any compromise show the correct name.

It's not shoddy because the hospital is located in Fazakerley, not Aintree. Fazakerley Hospital is universally understood throughout Liverpool and Merseyside.

Anyone from outside the area with an appointment letter would have the address shown on the letter as being within Fazakerley. To anyone not requiring the hospital, 'Aintree' implies the 17 serves the village of Aintree, which it does not.

In short, 'Aintree Hospital' as a destination is more confusing whether it is technically 'right' or not.

Well you can say that but i don`t agree with you , have a look on a recent map and the hospital is clearly called Aintree, Not Fazakerley, this is 2014 not 1974

Nostalgia etc is for museums and running days not modern bus services

Whether the hospital sits in Fazakerley or not it's now called Aintree University Hospital, having just changed from its old official name of University Hospital Aintree, some buses did show this on the destination but as you can imagine the writing was very small. HTLs 102 shows Aintree Hospital. The hospital was renamed when Walton and Fazakerley were joined under the same NHS Trust for ease called Aintree Hospitals Trust.

There are loads of places people will always remember old names. For example when I was at CMT their ticket machines had the Rotunda as a timing point, this was a former cinema on the triangle piece of land by Scotland Road/Stanley Road. The Mons pub changed to Hilltop for years yet everyone called it The Mons which it's now reverted back to. The Crown pub that stood on the corner of East Lancs and Stopgate lane was burnt down and demolished years ago yet it's known as the a crown crossroads in the road signage So I can appreciate Fazakerley Hospital will be Fazakerley Hospital but it's new name and the massive letter A that's now stuck to the side of the hospital blocks is its new name!

Trident 17325 (TSU641) was on the 20/21 today. The size all buses should be on these routes.

With modern displays, or even roller blinds, surely the solution is simple: Fazakerley (Aintree Hospital)

I remember many years ago my dad, who was a conductor at Litherland depot, telling me an amusing tale of a guy boarding the first 55 from the Old Haymarket one foggy winter's morning, paying his fare and disappearing upstairs for a smoke.
As he was getting off at the then terminus he asked my dad how far it was to the factory.
"What factory?" asked my dad.
"The one where they make the new Anglia," came the reply.

In those days the 55's outer terminus was FORD.
