Ironically those rules are in place because of operators like Stagecoach imitating local operators in the 1990s, especially those that they approached with a takeover offer and who rejected their takeover offer. For those who aren't aware/can't remember if there was an operator called John Smith Buses who ran the number 2 service departing at 5 to the hour, Stagecoach would set up an operator with a similar name e.g. Joan Smith Buses and would run an E2 service at 7 minutes to the hour, following exactly the same route as the 2 service. Joan Smith Buses would have brand new buses in plain white with their brand name. Then if John Smith Buses went out of business then Joan Smith would turn in to Stagecoach overnight with older Stagecoach branded buses turning up and the new white buses going to another area where Stagecoach wanted to take over.

Remember when GMbuses South was not sold to Stagecoach so Stagecoach Ribble ended up setting up Stagecoach Manchester on the 192 then when they diid buy GMS they sold Stagecoach Manchester to finglands along with all the buses. then Stagecoach Manchester was born again.

Ribble had always competed with GMB in some way or another. In the 90’s everyone wanted a slice of the 192, to say it was a direct attack on GMS would be wrong as Finglands, Bullocks, universal and UKN were all on it at the time.
The regulatory body at the time wouldn’t allow Stagecoach to buy any company they competed with as it was seen as an unfair sale so Stagecoach very quickly sold the tiny 192 operation to Finglands and bought GMS.

The classic example of a company passing another off is UK NORTH, who in the 90’s painted a load of fleetlines and atlanteans blue and calling them ‘Superbus’ and obviously competing with magicbus along Oxford/wilmslow road. They were quickly forced to paint the buses which is where the uk north red came in.

Not the case it was due to X43 as GMS was using charterplan coaches on there and in end stagecoach used the 192 to get management to talk about stagecoach buying GMS as stagecoach was going to move onto other routes once they had the 192 but them running on 192 made it hard to do a deal as there would of been a blocked but they offered I think it was £10 in the £1 worth in shares. at time Finglands did not run daytimes on 192. and UKN came after with gmbuses but it was well after as it would of been too close to gmbuses being sold and universal came after. I used to live on 192 route and remember how cheap they was charging think it was less then £1

The second ex Lothian Eclipse has entered service in the form of SN58 BYR.

This would have been W11MPT (ex EYMS YY52LCK). LK03GMF was removed from the fleet over a year ago.

Anyone know if MP68BUS is a Volvo chassis or is that just the Voith? It sounds like one but I’m not convinced as I’ve never seen a Volvo Enviro before?
