Prior to bus deregulation in 1986, that's exactly what did happen. It was only after deregulation that pay differentials between operators and depots became the norm. As predicted at the time, in real terms the rates of pay have fallen considerably whilst at the same time the owners and shareholders of the big companies have benefited greatly.

I have no idea who owns the likes of Avon, HTL and Cumfybus etc. but I assume that they don't live in the same property or drive the same car as they did when they established these companies. This assumption is based on what happened when Fareway and CMT sold out to MTL and then Stagecoach.

Changes to strikes, the 13th December 2017 strike is MOVED to 10th December 2017 to clash with the Merseyside Derby (Liverpool V Everton) and Manchester Derby (United V City) football matches.

Feeling it's becoming a joke now, and they are clearly trying their best to affect passengers now moving the strike to clash with two major football events, with Arriva providing the 263 past United and buses to both Merseyside stadiums.

So that now means that the 10th,12th and 14th are strike days. Basically one day in, one day on strike.

Its obvious that this has been done on purpose it’s because they are trying to scare Arriva into paying them by striking on days they are needed most

Arriva 471/472 is running today

With a limited service. Apart from Southport, Birkenhead is the only other Merseyside depot running anything and this is the first time during these strikes that anything has run into Liverpool City Centre.

Seems madness on the company's part to run that service with the limited resources Birkenhead has, given that Stagecoach already provide a 20 min frequency a large swathes of the Wirral (particularly Wallasey) currently have no service whatsoever.

With regards to the changing of the days, it wouldn't be worth holding a strike if there was no impact to passengers. It's obviously designed to get Arriva round the table and improve their offer. The fact that Arriva feels able to absorb the cost of so many strike days suggests the money is there to meet the deal to Unions want.

Looks like Macclesfield depot aren't providing a full service this time - I think on previous strike days they've more or less provided a full service.

Does the 263 carry many football passengers? The 263 route runs down roads around 1/4 mile from the Altrincham Metrolink route.

As Peoples Bus run Soccerbus and Stagecoach run city centre to Anfield will there be many people who can't get to the Merseyside derby by bus or bus & train?
