A good fit would be Selwyns if anything happened as the company that owns it ratp has bournemouth transport and contracted London services so they have an idea on public transport

This was more to do with saving money as a company, wages and conditions etc. Nothing mentioned about a sale. But what was mentioned was significant for the employees. No money available, we need to save money. Sad really, a buy-out would hopefully benefit the employees, sad to see the company the way it is now.

From what you have reported this sounds very much like the end of Halton as an independent. In recent times these type of statements are invariably a precursor to a company either folding or a buyout.

What has the Traffic Commissioner to do with it, it would be the Competition Commissioner who would look into a takeover by Arriva. If Arriva decided to register their own services on Halton routes the Traffic Commissioner would accept

Maybe, and only maybe, the fact Go Ahead has registered Go North Wwest makes me wonder and this is what I wondered at the beginning, if Halton might be a Target as its an ideal operation for them to rebuild into there style and it could be managed from Manchester without extra resources.

Halton is certainly the sort of operation that Go Ahead have taken on previously - most recently, Thamesmead (Swindon).

I've been advised that Selwyn's owners were considering a purchase of Halton Transport around 2017 but changed their mind regarding the state of the fleet.

I think you mean Thamesdown but yes, Go-Ahead did buy the Swindon municipal recently. Coincidentally, Go-Ahead do run route 244 in Thamesmead in London.

On the downside any other operator will be looking at is the fleet and the big with it still been Council owned will be how well the pension fund is,
