The entire network is really struggling.

Sounds like the RHTT season is not going very well this year at all , i wonder who other than Kirkdale would be prepared to help , possibly Allerton .

I suspect they may drag to Crewe if it gets any worse.

RE: Merseyrail - 507 mad - 09/11/2012 22:20

wheelflats have always been a major problem for merseyrail but in 2007 it was a very bad case were 507001, 507008, 507013, 507015 and 507019 all got sent to crewe at the same time because kirkdale was far too busy.

RE: Merseyrail - 507 mad - 09/11/2012 22:21

what units have all got problems now

RE: Merseyrail - Harryn9000 - 09/11/2012 23:07

what causes the wheel flats on merseyrail

RE: Merseyrail - wirralbus - 10/11/2012 09:01

Adhesion can be one of the problems at this time of the year as vehicles struggle to start up from station stops which can result in a very jerky start off , also struggling to stop is another one that can result in wheelflats as the brakes go on and then off repeatedly a bit like an anti lock braking system on a car .

One problem that there still looking at is wheel wear around the Liverpool loop and they have been using two units to look at the difference , being honest though if they dont know now how long it takes for a unit that mostly goes round the loop to have unusable tyres on the unit before going for tyre turning on the lathe then , well god help us.

RE: Merseyrail - H101GEV - 10/11/2012 09:35

Just to confirm, 507015 is the unit used for Northern Line wheel wear monitoring and 508139 is the corresponding Wirral Line set. I actually saw 507015 on the Wirral Line a week or so ago on the Chester line, but 508139 is very rare on the Northern Line, generally only appearing at Kirkdale for stabling. The last use of it I've witnessed on the blue side was during the Grand National.

I've noticed a few jerky starts of late but some units seem to handle the adhesion problems better than others.

507012 looks to be out and about on a test run today. Maybe needed back in service due to the number of units suffering with wheel flats

RE: Merseyrail - First Class - 10/11/2012 12:09

Services generally running fine at the moment, no real problems this morning.

Less units required for a Saturday service anyway. I suspect everything is a 3-car.

RE: Merseyrail - 507 mad - 11/11/2012 19:58

another thing i'm furious about is that yesterday getting the train to liverpool from hightown which was served by 507003, a corner of one side of the middle coach was completely graffiti damaged and an M was lost in the attack, the unit once again was 507003.

and coming home the unit was 507004, we stopped in the tunnel at ML31 which was green already, then stopped between sandhills and bank hall.

RE: Merseyrail - H101GEV - 11/11/2012 21:09

That reminds me, 507005 and 508143 *still* haven't had their graffiti cleaned off. Yesterday the former was on the Ormskirk line and the latter Chester. Both only cover parts of a single carriage, but for them to go around carrying tags for as long as they have is ridiculous, especially as 507012 was cleaned almost immediately. I first noticed it on 507005 as far back as 29/09/12 (it no doubt occurred earlier than that) and 508143 is about as long.
