RE: Northern Rail - childwallblues - 09/04/2015 22:19

319368 and 319382 left Wolverton Works this afternoon on transfer to Northern Rail at Allerton.

So that's 7 refurbed 319's at Allerton - 13 to be done in just over a month - sounds fairly tight!

Eight actually - 319361-65/68/80/82. And it is not twenty to be done by the May timetable it is fourteen. The other six are for September.
The 1116 LIV-MIA and 1240 return have now gone over to 319 working.

My understanding was that all 20 were to be here by May to cover for the loss of the 6 156's to TPE.

Also any news on when weekend 319 diagrams are to be introduced on Liverpool - Manchester Airport service?

Only fourteen are required by May.

RE: Northern Rail - H101GEV - 10/04/2015 19:15

Is it not 14 units required to operate 12 diagrams, allowing for 2 spares? I'm thinking they require 4 for the Wigan service, 3 for the Manchester Airport, 3 for the Manchester Victoria and 2 for the Warrington Bank Quay. I understand the Warrington service is lowest on the priority list, so if there aren't enough 319s available by May, they'll only transfer the Man Vic and Wigan routes to electrics.

The original plan was for 2 x 156s released off Manchester Airport-Liverpool to be used to replace 2 x 142 diagrams on the Mid-Cheshire line leaving meaning almost all Mid-Cheshire services would be 150s and 156s. An ECS between Newton Heath and Chester in the morning would have become and ECS between Allerton and Chester instead.

The 142s freed up would have gone to on to a Hazel Grove-Preston diagram, freeing up a 150 for the Todmorden changes.

However, then DfT came along and decided Northern could loan 6 x 156s to TPE to plug the gap, so plans changed and I'm not sure if the Mid-Cheshire line will still benefit from cascades.

It's broken down twice in service since Osborne named it. The first time was a couple of days after he named it near Liverpool. The second time was on platform 14 at Piccadilly, just before the evening peak!
