The 47 has needed double deckers for years and, even now, it has only received them due to a short-term frequency reduction.

I'd suggest the current allocation of 42 deckers at Laird Street is rather generous, especially for routes like the 407 and 464.

At least Birkenhead's always had the luxury of deckers. There's plenty of Liverpool routes (10/10A/10B, 12/13, 14, 15, 18, 26/27, 47, 52/52A, 79) which went without them for far too long...

First of the st Helens ones go to Thornton's Ashington in the North East

At least they don't have Solo's unlike St Helens.

Cross Rivers need deckers especially Heswalls. 4489/90/91 would have been good additions to work alongside the Hybrids seeing as Speke are flush for deckers at the moment, they deserve to be on more than 79/82s being high spec.

Wouldn't say Speke were flush for deckers, those three were replacements for the 3 Enviro400's that went to Bootle. Plus they have just lost more to Southport.

I haven't said the cross river routes don't need deckers. My point was that Birkenhead has always had a sufficient amount of deckers whereas it's only been since 2015 (2011 for the 79) that the vast majority of Liverpool's busiest routes have finally had buses of the correct capacity. Even now the 17 and 26/27 still need deckers but at least they're on the horizon for the latter

Birkenhead depot really isn't as hard done by as you seem to think it is

So Liverpool doesn't deserve nice buses then?

The issue of insufficient capacity on many Merseyside routes stems from Arriva's acquisition of MTL. Soon after, Arriva adopted a policy purchasing single deck vehicles, first Dennis Darts and subsequently Cadets and Commanders and then Pulsars as replacements for the ageing Atlanteans, Titans and Volvos.

With the exception of some gas buses for Runcorn, BYDs for Green Lane and a few Streetlites Arriva has now adopted a policy of buying deckers for its core routes and I cannot see this policy changing in the near future.

I take issue with the implication that Cross-River services are somehow worth more than the 79 and 82. The LS hybrids have by far the worst vandalism of any Merseyside-based deckers, so if anything, care should be taken with allocating higher-spec buses on Cross-River routes.

the problem with certain depots is that the buses bought for certain routes don't stay on there, even now 52s still get pulsars on them
