RE: Merseyrail - H101GEV - 30/11/2014 18:59

Following 507012 for re-livery, 508141 and 507028 have been done in the last two weeks. Occupying the re-livery road at Birkenhead North today is 507019, but it remains to be seen whether they will do one this week as a lot of units are needed for this coming Saturday.

All services today were formed of six cars as the Christmas Shopping period gets underway. According to RTT, the Southport line services are booked for six cars on the next three Saturdays as well as the normal Sunday strengthening.

508103 and 508140 performed the first of this year's Polar Express runs today, with further journeys planned for the 14th and 21st December.

Im led to believe that the polar express's on the 14 and 21st December will a different pairing from what i have heard.

If Friday was anything to go then we are now in to manic mode for Christmas shopping , to be honest it feels like there is a lot more around this year than last.

The Ormskirk line could do with some 6 car trains on a Saturday i Travelled on it this Saturday and it was very overcrowded.

Its a tough one getting the Saturday Six Cars right .

Southport line needs the six cars because of the length of the line it travels on and the amount of passengers it will be picking up by the time the train arrives in the Liverpool area.

The other bone of contention seems to be Chester services which do seem to attract a few passengers 50% of which should now be sixes on a Saturday , by not going the full hit it will allow a few other services to be strengthened elsewhere on the network , even if its only one six car set here and one six car set there .

The Ormskirk line actually will have six cars this coming Saturday, MX12, in connection with the Aintree Races. The route will probably be chaos though for most of the day as the meeting is sold out and additional Aintree shuttles are not being provided.

It will certaintly be interesting to see how this day goes considering this particulary Saturday in its own right is one of the busy days before Christmas .

A unit failed yesterday morning between Moorfields and Sandhills disrupting the whole of the northern line wonder if this was a result of the sudden onset of cold weather? I got the first train to Ormskirk just missing the disruption but my train was certainly struggling and arrived in Ormskirk 5 mins late. Anyone know which unit was the one that failed? Thanks.

It was the MPV that was unable to climb Leeds St bank.

In the end network rail insisted that the MPV must vacate the Northern Line via Hunts Cross.
